This article covers:
Why segment automations exist, and what problem they solve
Event-based vs. time-based automations, at a glance
Where to go next to set one up
In short
The busiest parts of a season are exactly when there is the least time to build segments by hand. A segment automation lets you set your targeting once, for a specific game or on a recurring cadence, and StellarAlgo builds and pushes the segment automatically from then on. The result is the same campaigns running consistently all season, without you rebuilding them every week or every game.
The problem this solves
Recurring campaigns, a pre-game reminder, a weekly re-engagement check, a post-event follow-up, all need the same segment rebuilt at the right moment, over and over, all season. Building that by hand works fine until the schedule gets busy: a homestand, a tournament week, the stretch run. That is exactly when manual segment-building is easiest to fall behind on, and when consistency matters most.
An automation removes the rebuilding step. You define the targeting once. StellarAlgo builds it and pushes it to your destination on its own, every time it is due, whether that is game 3 of the season or game 60.
Two ways to automate
| Event-based | Time-based |
Runs | Relative to each game in your schedule | On a cadence you set: hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly |
Good for | Campaigns tied to a specific game, such as pre-game reminders or post-game follow-up | Ongoing lead flow and recurring checks that are not tied to one game |
Note: For the full comparison, how each type behaves, and the automation dashboard, see Segment automations.

FAQ
Do I need to rebuild anything once an automation is running?
No. Once it is set up, it builds and pushes the segment on its own for the length of the automation period.
Does an automation behave differently during a busier stretch of the season?
No. It runs the same way regardless of how busy things get. That consistency is the point.
Can I still build segments manually if I would rather?
Yes. Automations are an option, not a requirement. Use the Segment Builder directly for anything you would rather handle one at a time.
Still need help?
Contact StellarAlgo support and include the automation name, the type (event based or time based), and what you were expecting it to do.
