In short. The Segment Builder has new filters. Purchase Channel lets you target fans by how they bought a ticket. Journey Step and Message Variant let you target fans by where they are in your automated email journeys. This article explains each one and maps the journey filters to the terms your email platform uses.
Purchase Channel
Purchase Channel is in the Ticketing section of the Segment Builder. It filters fans by how they bought a ticket, for example box office, online, mobile, group sales, or resale.
Use it to reach box-office buyers with a digital or mobile app campaign, find fans who came in through resale and have no direct purchase relationship, or leave out comp and internal channels for a cleaner audience.
Journey Step
Journey Step is in the Marketing Activity section. It filters fans by the step they reached in a multi-step automated email journey. Use it to retarget fans who reached a certain step but did not convert, or to see where fans drop off in a journey.
We use one platform-neutral label. Here is what it is called in each email platform:
Your email platform | What Journey Step is called there |
Braze | Canvas Step |
Salesforce Marketing Cloud | Journey Activity |
Eloqua | Program Step |
Message Variant
Message Variant is in the Marketing Activity section. It filters fans by the A/B test variant they were assigned within a journey. Use it to follow up with the fans who were in the winning variant, or to see whether the variant a fan received relates to what they did next, such as buying tickets.
Here is what it is called in each email platform:
Your email platform | What Message Variant is called there |
Braze | Canvas Variation |
Salesforce Marketing Cloud | Journey Variant |
Where to find them
In the Segment Builder, choose Add Filter. Purchase Channel is under Ticketing. Journey Step and Message Variant are under Marketing Activity.
